Is the ST1300 quicker than the ST1100?

Just curious . . . Is the ST1300 quicker than the ST1100?

The reason I ask is that the ST1300 looks like it gained 80 lbs along with the 200cc increased displacement. Which one handles better?

(Correct me if I'm wrong about that weight gain . . . .)

In November 2003, I bought a '84 V65 Sabre because it was faster than a ST1100 (and cheaper)

In November 2005, I bought my first ST1300, because it was newer than the V65 Sabre and I wouldn't have to be working on it as much as I did with the V65 Sabre!

To answer your question, the ST1300 is faster than the V65 Sabre, so yes the ST1300 is faster than the ST1100.

But really, that's not the question to ask, the correct question to ask at this point is which will service you better over the time you expect to have a bike!

With over 300K on ST1300s, I know they will service me better than a V65 Sabre or ST1100. Which means more riding time!

There are those on the forum that will dispute the ST1100 VS the ST1300, but that's okay, because they are just BIAS and I'm not!

I was just curious. It's nothing I really need to know -- so don't beat me up over idle curiosity.

Besides, I'm not comparison shopping the two -- I just bought a new CTX1300D. :)

I guess when you have four of them the reliability factor isn't all that important anyway, but I'm not following how the ST1300 means more riding time compared to the ST1100.

To the OP, the 1300 is about 1 second quicker in both 1/4 mile and 0-60 based on published numbers. Its weight is comparable to the 1100 for the non-ABS model and a little lighter for the ABS model. The 80 lbs heavier figure is not correct.

The ST1300 is quicker than the 1100. It's 20-something pounds lighter, has more hp, and is geared lower. It also has more rake and less trail so the steering is lighter and quicker.

I looked up some stats on the ST1100 and it looks like it was 80 lbs lighter than the ST1300. Are you saying that the ST1100 weighed 750 lbs wet? The ST1300 weighs 730 lbs wet. You could very well be right, I'm just surprised.

Some published numbers on the 1100s were dry weights. The 1300 is lighter by about 10 to 33 lbs depending on model.

With that being the case, I can see why the ST1300 is quicker. Thanks.

Well, they will both go well beyond legal speeds ! But that doesn't help.

When i first got my 1300, i still had the 1100ABS and realised that i didnt check the speedo when accelerating up to highway speeds. I'd got used to it and just accelerated to what felt right - Either by sensation, or by judging the elapsed time. So the first few rides, it surprised me to note that my acceleration to what i thought was 70 mph turned out to be to 90.

It is lighter, more nimble, 'quicker' and lighter steering and i think it is much less sensitive to cross winds than the 1100. The amount of low down power was less on my first St1300 - clutch slipping required on tight uphill hairpins. The later ST1300 has a different ECM and is much better.

See, I told you they were BIAS! :rofl1:

Has anyone tested out the 1/4 mile difference between the ST1300 VS CTX1300? I know they did some weird stuff tot he engine for the CTX1300, but I have no idea which is actually faster/quicker! ;)

All I know is that the engine in the CTX1300 is detuned. How? Don't know. Valve timing, different valves, lower compression . . . not sure. I think it was done for more low-end torque.

Black of course.....:06biker::ds1:............with Red only a micro second behind........:biker:.!!!!
Those who think otherwise are biased.....and I am not....just like Supra....:rofl1:

Im glad this came up. There is another thread somewhere that explains why different colors are faster - and it has nothing to do with what color you own.

When my 2004 ST1300A was new, I rode quite a bit with someone who had a ~1996 ST1100A and we found there's just not a lot of difference between the 11 and 13 in a roll-on acceleration test. The few times we did that, we'd lower speed to the mid-40's mph and he'd initiate the 'go'. He'd get a half-bike length jump at the start but I'd gain on him slowly. By the time we were well into 5th gear, I was past him by a handful of bike lengths. Perhaps I wasn't using the best power range of the ST1300, but it wasn't like the ST11 was way outclassed by the ST13 in a straight line drag.

In curves, he could keep up on his ST11 if he really tried, but he had to work at it--or he'd speed way up in straight sections [where I wasn't trying to keep my speed up] and make up some distance lost from the curvy sections. The ST13 handled more sporty, in practice.

I had a '98 ST1100A before the ST13. I felt the ST11 seemed a bit better at long mile-eating runs--it seems more planted and more at ease in long runs than my ST13.

It is configured slightly different, a bit more low end torque as I recall. There's a thread around here about the differences. FYI, saying "detuned" can start a fight with the CTX owners. ;)

Yeah, I can imagine. It seems that no matter what you say sometimes, someone will take offense. Oh well . . . .

I've owned several bikes that had detuned engines, the two that come to mind are the Kawasaki GPZ1100 and the Kawasaki ZRX1200 - detuned ZX11 engines.

(BTW, I own a CTX, as of yesterday . . .)

I would really have to see a set of dyno curves to believe there is any difference in engine output.

What he said. I had an 1100 for 13 years. Been on a 1300 one year. Quicker in every way but that doesn't take any thing away from the 1100. Both are great, just slightly different. In normal to spirited riding I could hang with most 1300s but if they really wanted too they could pull away. But then again I bet Uncle Phil could leave me in the dust on any of his 3 1100s with me on the 1300.
