Earlier I had commented on the inaccuracy of the On Board fuel mileage average (reading low).

I just got back from a 3700 mile trip to Texas and back. The on board computer showed my fuel mileage average at 40.5 MPG. Manual calculation of the fuel used showed 44.4 MPG!

Thanks Keith,
I'm curious if you reset the computer after each fill?

Normally I do.

On my recent trip I did no reset. I just kept a log of the gallons of fuel I purchased and divided the mileage by that number.

I have experienced the same (avg reading low) when resetting at each fill-up

Similar to my experience. I log book every tank fill up. My tank "average" display is almost always 3 mpg lower than actual consistantly.

Just got in on this one. I have a 2004 and the MPG reading is always between 6 and 18 most of the time it is between 10 and 14.

It never bothered me because I have tried the bike several times and it is fairly consistent at 48 mpg.

Just returned from a 860 mile trip in all kinds of driving and its average was 48.2 mpg. Jim.

That certainly seems odd that the reading is so off. Is the gas gauge reasonably accurate?

Sorry People I've been away.

Hi friends, sorry I have not give any update for a while.
My mpg was reading from 6mpg up to around 10mpg so I have purchased
a new air filter and now the reading is from around 8mpg up to around 14mpg.

I am going to change the plugs, oil and run some cleaner through the tank.

Then I am going to do as you advised about filling up and running the bike
then do some math.

I will post back with all results.

Thank you to all of you.
