A Morgan 30! Nice.

We had Angel's Wing for about 10 years but when I started riding again in 2005 I went from using the boat about once a week to once a month, then once every other month. I never wanted to be and couldn't be a sailor like that - marinas are full of beautiful but moldering boats - but because she was the 10th sailboat in 40 years and the proceeds from the previous 9 boats were tied up in her I resisted selling her for a year but we did sell her in 2006 as she was getting no use and her expense was a cost that my check book needed to spread over 40 or 50 days of use a year. I knew I'd never be able to raise the funds to buy another boat like her so I held off in case I changed my mind but sailing is a chapter in my life that is closed for now.

Riding and touring on a bike has a lot in common with cruising on a sailboat and I'm glad for that part of my life.

I sail on inland lakes. Presently sailing an old wood masted 20' melges scow. Stored in the barn when not in use. Which is too much... but no expense.

We have a 38.5 mile race here in May that is on the St. Johns River - the Mug Race. In the past we had plenty of scows come down from the Midwest, like back in the 80s and 90s. IIRC they had 20 and 30 foot classes as well as smaller. Back then I was sailing my Hobie 16 and crewing on a Prindle 19. One year the Mug was sailed with a 20 knot reach and a bunch of those big scows caught and passed my 16 like nothing doing, carrying big spinnakers on a broad reach and planing in the gusts. Humbling.

Haha and they can turn on a dime too. I have had hobie 16's blow by me many a time but I can catch them coming about if I wasn't to far behind. One time I was in conditions that you described. Scary fast but just awesome when a third or more of your hull is out of the water planing.

No turning back now. Missed a beautiful riding day yesterday but got close to the clutch.

Good instruction manual and note pad... always a great thing. I see you have some "hot" tunes on the wall.

I got the clutch out and found it oil glazed and worn to minimum thickness. The crankshaft and counterbalance shaft seals were leaking thus contaminating the clutch which is normally dry.

Well done.
There must be a mountain of parts put aside to get to that stage.

Not that many really. I inserted all threaded fasteners back in their holes so there aren't many small things lying around.

Check your clutch master cylinder while you are in there. I know the r1150rt had it inside the bell housing and when it would fail it would also put fluid on the clutch disc. My r1100rt had to be split in half at 17,000 miles because the transmission seals failed putting oil on the disc ( they dried out from lack of use from previous owner). I need to split it again this winter at 75,000 to replace the transmission.

My BMW 3 series (E36) had the placement of the clutch slave cylinder where, when it failed, would ruin the clutch. Bad design.

Thanks for this. The 1200 moved the clutch slave cylinder outside the clutch space (bell housing). When it leaks it leaks outside of the clutch area. Part of the service history of this bike is the clutch slave was replaced about 10,000 miles ago.

All back together and running great again. I finished it up about sunset today and went for a ride to check it out. The job took me about 15 hours labor and $600 in parts making my investment $1600.
