    ONSTOC 12 - 2018

    Hi Everyone:

I think most of you know I've been trying to find us a place in Haliburton, Kawarthas or Muskoka that was as good as Bayview, for a similar price. There was no reason to move other than to have a new experience. I fully expected we'd be back at Bayview again in a couple of years.

So over the last month or so I've contacted dozens of places and personally visited several of them. Many weren't big enough, or didn't have the same amenities, or they were too remote. Others were really expensive.

The exercise confirmed for me something that I think we all pretty much all know ... we have it really good at Bayview. So, rather than delay any longer I got a hold of Walter and Elvira & booked us in for the same weekend.

All the details are below - the same drill as last year.

    Cheers, Jeff

    Cabins

Same plan as last year - the "Cabin Master" approach works like this ...
Call Bayview ONLY if you want to become a Cabin Master (Toll Free 888 262-3993) - this gives you 1st dibs on the Queen bed. They'll take your credit card info.
For everyone else - PM a Cabin Master to reserve a bed in their cabin. Pay your Cabin Master - who in turn is responsible to pay Bayview for the entire cabin for the 3 nights.

Cabin Masters - Let me know who you are. After you book with Bayview please PM me with the info. And if you could keep me updated with who has booked into your cabin that would be helpful. Thx.

So ... either call Bayview (Toll Free 888 262-3993) to reserve a cabin and become a Cabin Master, or watch this post to see who they are and PM one of them to reserve a bed.

CABIN BOOKING (the Cabin Master is the 1st name listed for each cabin below)

    Chalet A:
    Chalet B: Ray
    Chalet C: George
    Chalet D: Jeff

Cottage 1: Jay, Randy, Mike, Steve, Franck
    Cottage 2:
    Cottage 3:
Cottage 6: Jock & Susan, Dennis & Cindy
    Cottage 7:
    Cottage 11:

    Camping

No reservation needed with Bayview. Just show up. Please make sure you're on the RSVP page though, so I can give Walter a count.

    Thanks for posting this Jeff.

It would be nice to move the event every couple of years but the reality is that finding a reasonably priced venue willing to accept bookings for 50 people for just 3 days in prime vacation time is a huge ask. Lots of STOC events are held in the same place year after year. Bayview is an excellent venue, the roads in the area are good and we'll have a great time again next August.

    Thanks Phil,
A couple of those STOC organizers who do exactly what you say above, suggested to me that once a good place is found, stick with it.

Their reasoning was ... familiarity with the roads, routes, restaurants, gas stations etc is very welcome by pretty much everyone. Kind of like going "home" for a few days. So unless someone lives in the immediate area they aren't riding those roads very often anyway, so they have little chance of them getting "old".

    Jeff,

This is why I, and probably my group did not hesitate to book early. It's nice to ride the area roads, and we find new one's every year. The beer from the Calabogie Brewhouse, the food & staff at Redneck Bistro. The quiet sunsets and the scent of cuban cigars over the water at the lodge after a 12hr day.

Why mess with a good thing.

    Jay

Now there's an awesome visual. But can we add a splash of single malt somewhere in there?
