there's a special kinda humility with that comes along with having to take the dive there.

I'd agree :) after a three hour plus trip picking mine up, (years ago) I got distracted bringing it into the garage, forgot to put the kickstand down, and was flung across the garage in full view of the distract-er (13 year old). He and I were appropriately mortified, but for different reasons...

almost taking out the Electra Glide in the process.
Sounds like my closest call with it so far. I'm new to having a center stand and darn near took it off it not realizing I knocked the kickstand up. The Road Star was right beside it, so it would have been a disaster.

I always take the bike off of the center stand while ON the bike. It's not about to get away from me like that. It doesn't really matter if the side stand is down or not, but I prefer it up just in case there's a high spot where it would hit the ground.

Yeah, that's how I used to do it too, until I realized the magnets of my tankbag were messing up the tank paint! So, for many years, I have been pushing it off the center stand and after about 11 years of that, one would think I was in the habit of putting the kickstand down first! :doh1:

Crap happens....But, I'm sure I have beaten the odds, since I waited 12 years and over 320K miles before doing that! :rofl1:

That's how I roll. The side stand is usually up because I put it up after putting it on the center stand as otherwise it's often in the way.

That's actually what I was doing, too, but then leaned the bike over thinking that the kickstand was down and realized just in time that it wasn't. I'll be double-checking that from now on.

When it comes to tip-overs, it is like landing gear up in an airplane. There are those that have and those that are going to... :(

I seem to remember you doing exactly that in a recent post. :)
Yeah, when I had a flat on the freeway and I couldn't put the side stand nor the center stand down. I removed both saddlebags and topcases while still on the bike!

So, after 322,291 miles and 12 years on ST1300s, I finally DROPPED one, the 2004#2! At least it was that bike! ;)

Only took 322,000 + miles to lull you into a false sense of security. You've lasted longer than most!!;)

I had great visions of it ending up on the other side as being lifted too far....
Jeepers. That sucks. Great job righting the bike. In the garage now with the new tank on mine, trying not to think that it will happen again, but...ride on...or fall down, I guess it's all part of riding's rich pageant.

If a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound? So with all the cameras around and it is not recorded. Is it really a drop? I need to see the pictures to believe this really happened.

Welcome to the club, Bob. I had a near miss this evening rolling the back back into the garage. Forgot that silly side stand. Thankfully, I was able to muscle it up from halfway down. :weight1:

Just about the same thing happened to me at WIS STOC , going very slow turning into a gravel road. The pebbles on the pavement were like ball bearing under my front tire.
