I have two 2007 STs in my shop. Needing to raise some funds to keep my rally addiction from hitting the household budget, so i am thinking of getting rid of the higher mileage one. Curious of the best way to do that.

The bike is currently set up for rallying with under mirror lights, fork lights, LED headlights, aftermarket V-stream windscreen, mounting spot for 2 gps's, highway pegs, tip over bars, and a color matched V46 topcase. Currently has a russell seat, baker air wings, voltmeter, some really cool switches and a tank bag. Wired for heated gear, fuse block, and charging pigtail. Probably some other stuff too. Bike finished 22nd in the 2015 IBR. So it seems my choices are:

1. Return to stock and sell (and sell farkles separately)

2. Sell as is

3. Part out and sell a piece at a time

The bike is sound, and I would literally ride it anywhere in North America without a reservation. The bike does have 173,000 miles on it and that will scare some folks away.

I had 245,000 on my 07 and sold it on this form in 2 days. I had all the maintenance records and priced it right. Let all my extras on it and gave extra parts with it free. I looked at it this way. With that many enjoyable miles on it and 10 years old they are worth about 2 to 3 thousand tops. But at that price it is worth someone buying it and driving it for a few years with minor repairs. Any more they want lower millage.

Good luck

Before I got rid of my 2008 I took off and reused all non-ST related stuff and reused on my new bike. For me it was simple GPS and Mount, Tank Bag, Foot pegs, Battery Tender charging and power cords. They typically don't add value to the bike and I reused on new bike, saved me a couple of bucks.

But I also had some ST parts, maintenance records owners manual and a few other things that I stuffed in a side bag along with a GIVI top case that I let go with the bike.

My vote is #1, sort of... removing the farkles you want, leaving the rest.

I'll give you $.33, a half eaten bag of jerky that's been in the tank bag for a while, and some lemon drops stuck to it. If you'll deliver it, I'll throw in a non working EZpass.

I sold my '05 ST1300 with 174.3K miles on it, back in 2013, to my son in Oregon. He has put another 10K+ on it and still gives him what he wants, without having to pay for a bike with less miles. He knew how I maintained it, so he knew it was in good shape, even with the miles!

I have one commuter bike ('04#2) that I'm beating up pretty good. It has maybe 50K on it now (speedo was missing when I got it) But I'll do 50K on it myself before I will even think of getting rid of it. And then other '04#1 waiting for a new waterpump with 68K (I've got 37K on it) that I hope to replace the '04#2 with and finish off the 50K I want to put on it and sell it.

Then I will only have the '10 & '12. The '10 has 65K on it and is waiting for a clutch. I hope in 4.5 years I'll be able to retire the '10 with maybe 100K (mostly commuting) but I'll probably hang on to it.

I'm in no hurry to sell any of these bikes to tell you the truth. As long as they are still going strong, why not hang on to them since they don't seem to be that valuable like they were 4 years ago!

Depends. Buyers want a deal. If you want money and have time I would part it out and you may make $1,000 more than if you sell it. If you remove your accessories to sell it you may get $2,000 plus whatever you can get for the accessories you took off - figure about $.30 on the $1.00. Not a lot of money to be made here.

Not sure what is meant by this. If this a complete disassembly and selling off parts that is a long road and you will always have parts left over. I have tried this in the past with varying success. You have the potential to make a little more money than selling as a complete bike but it will take a long time to do that.

I vote #4.

Keep the bike you say has high miles and sell the lower miles bike. It's worth more and 173,000 is no where near done on an St1300.

+1 on number 4 -- keep the bike, you just got it broke in, She will give you a lot more miles, and you have it to lend it to a friend to go riding with you....
