2010 ST1300 bought 8/4/17 for $8000.00 with 2700 miles, extended Honda warranty, original battery and original tires.
I hope you've replaced the tires by now! :eek:4:

... except for the clutch slave cylinder extravaganza. ...

And look how many others have followed you in that deep dark place! :rofl1: (Me included... I still have two more to do!

India has a lot of protectionist taxes too. 20 years ago I worked with a guy from India that when he got his first paycheck here he went and bought a Honda Accord. I asked him why that car and he said the Accord was his dream car and he would never be able to afford it in India. Every Friday night after work he and his wife would leave for a trip, something very difficult in congested India. I always looked forward to hearing of his journeys on Monday morning.

$3200 for my 2005, 65K miles (wineberry - the fastest color). Came with new tires, a hondaline box, MCL risers and pegs, CB radio and antenna, Cee Bailey windshield, several powerlet outlets, additional LED stop lights and amber turn signals, one of those power distribution gizmo's under the seat, a broken left hand mirror and damaged mirror cover on the right, service manual....and quite a few scratches from being dropped (it was well balanced it had been dropped on both sides)

Or, is it purely a money-grab on the part of the government?
I can't say for sure what's in the mind of those pea brain people high up in their ivory tower, all I know is that if anyone who can afford to own a "vintage" motorcycle with bigger engine cc more than 25/30yrs old, you'll have to cough out alot more cash in order to use and operate it on the roads, there's no such thing as owning a vehicle forever once you bought and paid for it. The "road tax" that we have to pay every year for an older bike comes with a mathematical formula that is probably derived from some individual who has never rode a motorcycle before, high flyer scholars and brain damaged people. I guess that's where the huge government reserves from this tiny nation comes from...

I probably cannot afford to keep my ST11 come 2020 when it's 20yrs old, as the renewal taxes(currently peg @USD$6K) + road tax I'll have to pay annually will be too high to sustain, even though it is in excellent condition, road worthy and still looking good and strong.

Engine Capacity (EC) in cc
6-Monthly Road Tax Formula
(From 1 August 2016)
EC < 200
S$40 x 0.782
200 < EC < 1,000
[S$40 + S$0.15(EC - 200)] x 0.782
EC > 1,000
[S$160 + S$0.3(EC - 1,000)] x 0.782

A buddy of mine just bought a 2012 ST13, with 5yrs more to go on the road, @USD$11,425, thereupon he has to cough up another amount to use it when it hit year 2023.
The scheme for bikes started back in the early 90s, in 1991, where I had to renew for my Yamaha RD350 $5 bucks for 10yrs, it has now ballooned to afew K.

Off topic, don't even mentioned the price of a automobile here, which is probably the most expensive on this planet.
A Corolla will probably set you back ~USD$80-85K...
BMW/Merc will cost double...
Don't even think of exotic autos, the figures will be astronomical and in the ballpark of >1mil.
Cheapest 4 wheeler you can think of will be at a minimum of USD$45-50K, and only approved usage of 10yrs on the road.
Never mind if it's made in USA/Europe/Japan/Asia or outer space... they come with more or less the same price tag for all.

Now do you guys feel better after hearing this? :)

Sorry if this is too much info and going off topic, I guess it has become a ranting session for bikers...

It is likely a money grab by the government. It reminds me of ‘cash for clunker's here in the US several years ago
The differences being, Cash for Clunkers was (a) entirely voluntary, and (b) as you noted, a government subsidy for financially-troubled U.S. automakers (and, thereby, it was a job-SAVING program), set up as a (c) short-term, one-time initiative.

And, IF you chose to participate you were not *required* to go into debt for a new vehicle. If you chose not to finance it you *could* pay cash- which I know not everyone is able to do. And the debt went to... private industry, not the government.

I'll also point out that Cash for Clunkers *cost* the government money (the government PAID owners for their vehicles, not the other way around), it did not *generate* government revenue, unlike the Asian fees that started this thread.

China and Singapore have made their predatorial programs permanent, and compulsory for all vehicle owners.

China is real good with letting us "buy" cheap, but have you ever tried to send something back? For the most part, it will cost you a lot to try to send stuff back. My wife bought a dress for one of my son's weddings and it was so poorly made, she returned it. I think it cost her about 1/3 of the cost of the dress to return it due to the way their postal service is run (taxes/etc..).

When I wanted to return the Chinese Tupperware, I found that it would have cost me (postage) almost as much as I would get back. That's why I held on to it.

April of 2013, I purchased my 2006 ST with 6,400 miles on it for $6,500. And that seemed high to me, but I fell in lust with the bike...

I sold the Sporster in May 2017 and bought a 2007 ST1300ABS with 38,000. It came with the following accessories Givi, MCL foot pegs and several issues due to neglect. So far I've found 6 wasp nests and one mouse nest. I've added Heli-Bars, RamX mount, changed tires & fluids. Sold the sports for $1800 and purchased the ST for $4,000 and put another $1,000 in it. I currently has 40,000. Just waiting for better weather to ride more.

I purchased my 2002 St1300 (no ABS) humble steed from eBay for £1100. It had been down the road on the right side , and was a registered insurance group 'C' . spent another £800 to £ 1200 sorting her out ... Now i have added a ABS for approx. £600 , an electrical screen an harness for £430 , and a front and rear dash cameras kit for £60.

next will be the wind deflectors , if i can still get them !!!

I've known a few people that have bought salvage title motorcycles too. . . They were handy and they made out pretty well on their initial investments.
