Stopped by Honda of Houston - they have 3 new GWs and one was parked outside, so i took the opportunity to park the ST next to the bagger version to take some shots. Two per post

Yep good work. maybe I am just used to it, but I think the ST looks better/ sleeker.

For around $15000 I like the Goldwing better.....
I thought the base price for a GW was around 10K more than that.

I like the red one. Seriously, there are some very nice style features on the GW. I just cannot get over the visual of the enormous gas tank on the ST.

I differ ... sounds odd, but i like the large tank, for the range ... the ergos of it does not bother me.

My take ...
* it's easy to lift the new GW from the side stand
* the top case is too small
* the panniers are too small
* for me, all the "dashboard stuff" is too much visual noise
* the tiny buttons to open the cases are prone to break

I like
* the longer wheelbase
* i want DCT
* the nimbleness of it overall.

I consider this to be the ST1800. I have STs and a GW ... if i were to sell both, this would replace each of them - it's the best compromise for each bike.

I've never been keen on the shape of the ST's tank. It leaned too much toward repli-racer styling. My favorite tank shapes were all on older Hondas- GL1000 / VF-1000 / VF1100S. I'm liking the ST1800 more and more.

Rear view of the 2 bikes - looks like the GoldWing's mufflers are much more vulnerable when in a lean than the ST1300 .
Except that the tip over guards that stick out from the mufflers will catch the ground before the mufflers do. They covered the front and rear guards same as they did on the CTX engine guards up front. The new Wings guards are lower on the bike.

Thanks for the pics. No doubt in my mind that Honda won't be coming out with an ST replacement. How would they size it both dimensionally and in displacement where it wouldn't cannibalize Gold Wing sales???
