Likely it became deeply discharged before it sold in 2016... 4 years is a long time.
All the dealers I have experience with only fill the battery with acid and perform the initial charge when the bike is sold. I would hope this wasn't done when the bike was received in to inventory as opposed to when it was sold so that the 4 years sitting time shouldn't be an issue. The Honda 3 year warranty starts on the date of sale so I would assume that he would get a pro-rated warranty replacement if the battery is defective.

Kind of quiet here. Now that these bikes have aged some, perhaps it's time to begin a new poll ... "How long did your ST1300 REPLACEMENT battery last?"

Had my 2007 ST1300 since new - put on battery tender intermittently. A little over a year ago I went out to run it and it wouldn't crank . Checked to see if it was in neutral and it was. Oh well - time for a battery- figured it doesn't owe me anything at 8 yrs plus.
bought a new battery- checked it's voltage and put it in. Switch on - neutral- hit the start button - no crank . Only then did I discover the kill switch thatI have never used was in the kill position . Red face here with a new battery and a still working ten year old one as well !

'04 STella original battery lasted 12 years! Replacement giving issues after 3. Talk about, "they don't make 'em like they used to!"

When it comes to the Yuasa battery word on the street is – they never did. it seems as though the battery supplied with a new ST is/was superior to the off-the-Honda-shelf Yuasa replacement battery.

A lot of members have stated getting much longer battery life out of the original compared to the replacement. But 12 freakin' years is a long service life!

I changed my '99 1100 Yuasa battery as a precaution in 2008 after 9 years. The replacement Bosch branded item is still in service in 2020..... Is this some kind of record?
At home I connect the battery to a solar cell regulated to 13.8v...

Not an ST, but the Valkyrie I purchased new and the OEM Yuasa battery YTZ14S went 13 years. Part of it I'm sure is I can't leave a bike in one piece for any lengthy multi year period of time. I'm guessing the ST probably runs the same battery.

I wasn't the original owner of my 2006. My brother traded it to me three years ago....bad arthritis. He had the bike serviced by the same dealership he bought it from and they asked him if he wanted the original battery changed. It was having no problems but the service tech suggested it. That was 11 years on the original Honda battery. The replacement lasted just two years before it failed to charge. Coming up on a year with the new Honda spec battery from my local Honda dealer, so I suppose I will find out.

I bought my 2007 ST1300 in the fall of 2015 and it seemed like the battery was about to fail then. I figured I would simply buy a new one in the spring of 2016 - but I left the old one in and used a battery tender.

That same battery is still in the bike and it still starts every time I want it to.

Seems some people are getting a lot of life from their batteries.
i have a couple of motorcycle specific tenders.
think I’m going to invest in a new one as my 2 year old ST Yuasa battery is getting tired. Probably invest in new yuasa in spring.
ST didn’t start today, weak and back on tender.
Took the Africa Twin for ride today.

interesting as both my bikes use YTZ14S..

The battery in my 01' 1100 I bought in 2012 died in my buddies driveway. It would not take a charge. Shop said it was done.
Replaced the battery and bought a smart charger (C-TEK) with it. It came with a battery status LED. I rode the bike pretty regularly. The battery stayed in the bike on the charger thru the winters in a 10°C/50°F garage. Same battery until I traded it in 2019.
The dealer claims this '04 has a new battery. It sat at the dealer for a month last year after purchase and another month in my garage on the charger. This season the battery seems to be dropping it's charge more often. Meaning not staying in the green (fully charged).
Not impressed.

The battery in our 1991 is four years old.
I replaced the 2006's battery a 18 months ago. According to the receipts I got with the bike, the previous battery was five years old. Behaved normally, held a charge, died in its sleep over night with no additional warning.

Funny ... the only time I think about "battery life" is if its life is too short.

I can't state the lifetime of the batteries in any of our bikes, cagers, or zero-turn is ... might be an "age related memory" problem on my part : )

Battery Tender every off season is the key, but only if you have a decent battery to begin with. On to number 3. Still.....not bad. Only 3 batteries in 17 years

I'm still on my 2nd battery. Bike has 85,000km and gets used mostly from April to November. It's on the tender in the winter and if I'm not riding for a week or more during the summer which sometimes happens if we are travelling with the camper. The one I have in right now came from this Forum 6 or 7 years ago when a member was selling Yuasa take off units out of Honda generators. Hasn't let me down yet, but I do carry one of those little jump starter batteries in a side case. Cheers Ed

8 years and still going strong, with a Yuasa YTZ14S. Trickle charger used during winter storage, but not in riding season.
This was one of the new pull-outs from Honda Generators that forum member Evapar was selling here, for $65..
No problems yet, but just in case, I do keep a jump-starter in the Pannier.
