I did this a long time ago when I had my '01 Wing but thought it might still
help those that would like to make sure their CB is transmitting at an
optimal level.

I also still have the meter and cables so if anyone in the DFW area needs
them just shout and you can borrow it.

That's a well written procedure that I would think anyone could follow.

One other note on the Firestik type antennas. Although one would think the plastic cap would make no difference, I have seen it change the antenna. Take all readings with the plastic cap in place.

Good point.. I've even known people to put their SO on the bike to get the best reading WITH them sinc they travel with them most of the time.. not sure if that's a good thing to do or not.

Where were you when I needed this information????? Good write up!

DAMHIKT, but on the sierra antenna, if you go too short, you can pull some wire up to make it longer.... it will slip between the rod and the cover. Do all of this in VERY SMALL increments! It changes quickly when you are close! The wire MUST be coiled and the tip on to get the reading. You can coil the wire on top of the rod and put the cap back on so the coils are compressed and touching each other.

I have one of the CB SWR meters and cable here in the Davenport/Rock Island area and would be glad to help tune someone's antenna. Might even travel a bit for the offer of food and lodging. :)

The Firestick website has some excellent info on antennas, tuning, etc., BTW

My dear friend Chuck semi-seriously remarks:

If only I had a trailer and an SUV with a hitch, Chuck.

Anybody want to pick me and the Grey GhOOST up and head south of the snow line for a week or so....? :?: :!: :?: :!:

Been using the 2' Firestik II and 3' Firestik Firefly, both of which have the
tune tip, for a lot of years putting them on bikes, cars trucks ...etc ...
Work fine, last a LONG time !!! The 5yr warranty is great ... OBTW, all the
tuning data on my site was re-published with the permission of Firestik. They
have some great engineers who have helped me in the past when I really got
stumped (Honda Rune install) ..
