My GPS read 142 one day.

But, I plead the 5th as to who was operating the motorcyle...

;) While in a dream of course...or on a private road...over 140 mph 6 to 8 times...many times at 125 mph plus

 In the last two seasons .....I've slowed this down....I guess age or better yet intelligence has become the reason  ........

 ..for some reason though I can attest to the fact that the ST can keep right up and play with many of the sportbikes out there......

138mph indicated. But the lack of wobble made me back off again to 90.

155 indicated and 141 on the GPS. It takes a little patience to get the last 3 or 4 mph out of it.

According to a friend following way back on his ST I was doing 150.

I may have seen the needle point at that number out of the corner of my eye.

No wobble, no pull to the right.:D

I know I've been to 85 mph once but the wind was to my back on a long downhill. MPG dropped below 20 and it scared the beans out of me.

[Serious Rant] In engineering terms, loads on key parts of the bike go up as the square of the speed. By 'loads', I mean drag, hoop stress in the tires & rims, stress on engine & drivetrain parts, ... etc. The following table shows such loads as a function of speed, relative to 60 mph.

Speed, Loads
60, 100%
70, 136%
80, 178%
90, 225%
100, 278%
110, 336%
120, 400%
130, 469%
140, 544%
150, 625%

Just a quick burst up to 90 that we each seem to find on our speedo at times more than doubles the load on key parts. From 90 to 130, it more than doubles again. Scary stuff.

It only takes a slight imperfection in a tire and you are done with life at such high speeds. If a piece of fairing rips off and the bike no longer has symmetric loading...done. A rim cracks...done. A bearing siezes...done. One of many engine parts gives out...done. A tooth on the driveline failes...done. You hit something on the road...done. The road is damaged...done. Someone misjudges your speed and pulls in front of you...done.

I implore you to slow down. [/Serious Rant]
