it'll fit but why? The regular size is available in most makes 'n models, too.

I've run off sizes on both front and rear all the way to the wear bars. No grief as a result but never as good as the OEM sizes.

My opinion, based on empirical observation,

Might should post up for the guys that like to load up the ST 1300 with trailers and gear, The new Metzeler ME 880 REINFORCED 50 PSI, tire.
Mike
Another tire that is reinforced, yet not mentioned here as such, is the rear Avon Storm AV56 in the ST1100 size, 963lbs, 79V. The tire is also stamped in parentheses (Reinforced).

Are ya'll really running 50 PSI in an Metzeler 880 (rear)? Seems pretty high. I'm running 42 and it seems OK and got 9000 miles out of it. On my second of that type and just completed a 4600 mile trip.

Whoever would do that is in for a bouncy ride. And some odd tread wear.

I'll throw in another tire for the ST11 ...

Michelin Pilot Road2 2ct
Front: 120/70-18
Rear: 170/60-17

Non-standard, but sticky little buggers, a very good wet combo.

My favorite ST1100 tire (front: 91-02 std, 92-95abs; rear: all):

The OEM Bridgestone Exedra:
44711-MT3-615 / TIRE (110/80-V18) / "Exedra G547 110-80-18 58V" / 36 psi
42711-MT3-616 / TIRE (160/70-V17) / "Exedra G548 160/70-17 73V" / 42 psi

They're bias tires, BTW, not radials.
These OEM tires haven't been added to the chart yet....(?)

Mark, not sure I want to add non-standard options... this was meant more for the tires MADE in the OEM size... suggesting non-OEM sizes might get people in trouble... I don't think it's a huge issue and if you need a tire, you need a tire but for this thread I'd like to keep to OEM sizes.

Done, sorry I missed that John.

Ah, sorry missed the point.

Considering the age of the ST11, the oem tires are a good place to start but you should easily be able to improve on them with more recent tire types. It might be worth noting which of these oem tires are now obsolete.

FYI,

I noticed that the new Metzler Z6 Interact is listed as a tire available for the ST1300.

I am in the process of putting new tires on my ST1300 so I tried to order the Z6 Interact tires for both front and rear. I was told by the distributor that Metzler does not recommend the Z6 Interact for the front of the ST1300. They suggest the regular Z6. I now have the Z6 Interact installed on the rear and will have the regular Z6 installed on the front by this afternoon.

I checked the Metzler web site and the show the proper ST1300 front size as available but none of the on-line parts distributors have this tire available.

I will try to contact Metzler to lean more.
Thanks Steve, let us know what you find out...

Mellow, please make this change to your tire list. This affects the ST1100.

The Dunlop D205 (front), 110/80ZR-18 is discontinued. I was lucky to find one on the shelf.

Hey check this out: If you go to the Metzler (Pirelli) fitment chart, pick the ST13, they recommend these:
120/70 ZR 18 M/C (59W) TL ROADTEC Z6 Front - 32 PSI
170/60 ZR 17 M/C (72W) TL ROADTEC Z6 - 36 PSI

Is the LOW tire pressure because they're radials? (are they?)

Maybe the table of available tires could be sorted out by radial / bias ply.
AvonSTs are bias. Conti Road attacks are radials.

The lower pressures are probably for traction and stability, or they could just be a misprint.

Yes, Metzeler is affiliated with Pirelli.

I contacted Avon with some questions regarding the fitment of Storms to my 1300. Got a very interesting response:

Thank you for contacting Avon Tyres. Our tires are not recommended for the European version of your bike as it has handling issues with our tires. Here they are mostly ok bur even the US model can have these issues due to our aggressive tread pattern mixed with the ball bearings that Honda uses instead of tapered roller bearings. Our Storm tire works well with many of the bikes but on some there can be a mild to severe head shake at certain speeds or decelerating. As far as the heat, our tires do very well as long as higher air pressures are maintained. Higher air pressures help to achieve longer lasting and more even wearing tires. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your interest in Avon Tyres and ride safely.

I just finished off a Bridgestone Exedra G850 rear. This is made for a Kawi but is the same size as the ST1300. Worn to the low side of the wearbars I got 14,000 miles. I don't have a lot of experience performance wise but they felt fine to me. In both rain and dry I never felt them slip. That includes to the west coast (US1), the twisties of southern Virginia and West Virginia, two tornados, and lots of superslap.

These were a default I got at the Kawasaki dealer in Oklahoma City (nice guys there if you are in the neighborhood) because none of the Honda dealers in Arkansas or Oklahoma had a tire. I guess the ST1300 is such an unusual bike they don't see a need to stock tires for it.

I know this doesn't belong here, but, this is really interesting statement. Has this ever been discussed?

I'm currently running Avon STorms... No eveidence whatsoever of instability problems at any speeds so far...

I like the feel of the Avon STorms. I've ordered another set for WeSTOC to be sure I still have tread left when I get home.

I had the same response to a UK enquiry. Makes me wonder what that does to your insurance if your bike doesn't have an approved/recommended fitment?
