Just a little update I have about 50 miles on the setup now and the paint is holding up so far. The winter weather has been holding me down, but it is supposed to clear for the next week or so, maybe I can get some miles in. I'll keep ya posted.

I am in the process of painting my mufflers black on my 95 1100. Black is my chrome, The more black the better. I have the VHT black flameproof paint, the mfg says 1 hour of cure time at 600 deg. F. I am going to heat gun it for the recommended hour. Then a clear coat over top. Then the rims in black are next. The 1300's look great with the black on the cans.

Painted my pipes today with VHT Flameproof. Just letting them dry then I'll cure them on the bike using the recommended procedure. More pics to come when I install them on the bike. IMG_20160620_141104.jpg

Probably my all-time favorite mufflers were those on my V65 Sabre.

A close second were the Conti exhausts on my 750 Duc:

Exquisitely crafted and finished with terrific sound. The sexiest bike and best sounding EVAH!

Third were the Paul Dunstall mufflers on my 750 K4 as seen on this bike:

A great set of pipes in concept shape and sound but crap chrome. Still my 750 sounded like a big block Chevy V-8!

Mine still looked fine when I sold the bike. I always thought if they started looking a little rough I would repaint them but never had to.
That being said I don't think I will be painting the ones on my current ST. I'm fond of the stainless

Black pipes still looking great when I sold the bike a couple of weeks ago. The guy kept mentioning how good they looked on the bike. I will probably paint my VFR1200X pipe as well, but this time add the VHT Flameproof clear coat to give them more of a gloss look rather than just flat black.

Update: Painted the pipes on my new bike (VFR1200X). This time I added a Satin Coat of VHT paint. The pipes are retaining much more of a gloss look to them than they did on the ST (without the Satin Coat). Take a look.

Scuffed up the pipe with a Scotchbrite pad then PRIME > PAINT > SATIN COAT.
Curing process: idle 10 mins, bike off 20 mins, idle 20 mins, off 20 mins, ride at normal operating temp for 30 mins.

Paniers are painted with PlastiDip flat black and then two coats of PlastiDip Glossifier.

I hope it lasts. I tried paint a 4>1 exhaust with VHT black but it kept cracking after a couple of months.
