I might be wrong but my guess would be one of these;
http://trailerinabag.com/trailers.html
I considered a used T.I.A.B. because not only could I tow it behind the MC, with the runningboard option I could use it to tow my 1100 behind my truck. But for the once every 2 years I need to trailer my bike, its probably not worth the extra cost and 50+lbs.

No it's a bare bones unigo inspired sinlge wheel platform design by H2orider works great with the possibilities for customizing to your own needs. Kreis uses a large waterproof duffle strapped to it but I use a sportsmans lockers in stead .

I love it, but to be able to make a sleeper out of a single wheel trailer you would have to detach it and lay it down, or have a double kickstand up front and mount the cargo box higher to clear the wheel well.

Mike,
There may be some more ideas for you here:

A lot of them appear to be tents on a base frame but the advantage is there is more room and less weight but it maybe getting away from "just getting in after riding"

Still does not hurt to check them out

I looked at the flipshelter/bunkhouse style trailers but many of them weigh more than my concept, and are more steps than just flip open. I keep going back to them, because they certainly are roomy.

I'm still searching for an affordable used hitch for my 1100, but, I thought that, if the trailer gross weight turned out to be to high, wouldn't a trailer brake system work? The one on my dads boat used a pin inside the coupler, when the tow vehicle slowed, the hitch pushed forwards, pushing the pin which actuated a master cylinder, actuating the hydraulic trailer brakes. A very simple system, with no electrical connection for the brakes. You did have to flip up a lever when backing up to lock out the brakes.

Whatever happened about your idea? i was thinking the same idea a while ago then found your picture on google images of the top box and ended up here.
Another idea i had was a folded set of plates strapped against the top box and 4 rods that extend 2 front two back and a rain cover.
at your destination center stand then remove the top box and lock to a wheel and extend the four poles up unfold the plates and lock together place on top of the bike and place the rain cover over the whole thing. the heat of the bike will warm the whole thing. or exclude the top box and mount the plates there instead and just unfold from there. you sleep on the platform
