In the process of taking the fairing and other body panels off my ST to add accent LED lights on the inside and bottom (improve visibility for those occasions when I'm riding at night), and do some other maintenance work. This guide will help me make sure I get everything back where it belongs! You've done a fantaSTic job! Hats off to you guys for putting these together! :hat3:

Excellent!
I'm just about to make my first attempt at taking these off as I blew my radiator on the return home from a trip. (Luckily it happened at the last 45 Km of a 6400 Km ride)
Thanks, you make it look easy and organized!
Cheers

Thank you for this! I taped mine onto some old cardboard and punched holes to hold the screws in place. This also helped me figure out where all the bolts were in order to remove the plastics.

What do you do with all the fasteners when you take off your Tupperware?

Well I made these worksheets to keep track of mine.

The idea is as you remove the fasteners, you place them on the correct spot on the worksheet. It helps me keep track of all the parts and it reminds me of all the fasteners that have to be removed first before you try to pull the piece off. Also, each fastener is numbered so you can see the location where it came from - and where to put it back.

Note, I have labeled some of the socket bolts as 5mm or 6mm - this is the thread size. Also there are two different sizes for the trim clips - one has a golf T shaped head and the other is flat.

This is what the sheets look like loaded up:

"The Dan" added numbers (in red) for each fastener and wanted to share. Here are links to the files - (Thx Dan)

This is great. Does anyone know the PN's for these various bolt/fasteners. A few of mine have disappeared and I'd like to replace them. Thanks.

Hello All - wondering if anyone has developed a complete replacement order form of all the plastic fasteners. I have disassembled my 2003, and about 70% of the fasteners disintegrated. Any assistance would be enormously appreciated!!
I'm after the same information too so any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks, that's very useful. If I may be so bold to ask... does anyone sell a push rivet kit that contains all of the various rivets needed? I'd like to have some replacements on hand, but it gets expensive buying them in small batches.

A note about the two push-pins that go in the fairing just near the bottom of the windshield (when raised):

I think they're 5mm long and they don't fit well at all. One is sitting in the house and one is bouncing around in the mounting hole. I'm not sure if these are factory sized or if somebody installed the wrong pins somewhere between the dealer and customer.

Igofar (Larry) provided a link for some place that sells the various connectors included a longer (7mm?) version that should fit better or at least stay in. I don't remember the name source but the longer pins worth trying.

Agreed- I threw them out and replaced them with screws.

I copy some posts (or parts thereof) and put them in my ST folder on my pewter. Just dug these notes up. Sorry, I don't mean to plagiarize and I did not copy who posted this. The autozone note means (to me) that someone posted that as a source of push pins:

Found Source for Fairing Push Pins
I was at J.P. Cycles in Daytona looking around there huge store and in the Gold Wing section I see the plastic push pins that we always seem to need. I got 2 boxes of 10, one short and one long for $7 each. Much better then $3 each from Honda.
J.P. Cycle Part #ZZ76373 and #ZZ76374
They were packed in a Show Chrome package so I checked that site. They also have the small pins. They were about $.75 cheeper then J.P. Cycle
Show Chrome Part #BBP-3-106, #BBP-3-104, #BBP-3-112

What a wonderful set of pics and numbers. Many thanks.
Everything came off as instructed, and I put pins and screws in labeled sandwich bags.

However, because I'm a mechanical dork, I'm confused about the right inner cowl in reassembly for my 2007:
The diagram shows a screw at position 1 and a small push pin next to it at position 2. I DO have those pieces left over, but I do not see holes for position 1 and 2 now that I'm putting it back together. Instead there is just a tab to align with the inner lower cowl. [ See pic. The hole is for push pin #3 ]

What happened? Thanks, Bill

I throw ALL the fasteners, push rivets, and clips into a single stainless steel bowl while working, just because I love to see the look of panic on folks faces :rofl1:
There are only a few different size allen head bolts, clips, and pins, and I can tell you where they go by feel....even with my eyes closed :thumb:
