Being a former Avon user, I am disappointed in the reports of their new ones blistering, etc. So... I am looking for a new tire to try.
I have a new set of Ultra's on mine now. I think I am going to pull the rear off. I love the tire! Just scared of what I have been reading!

970 Mike....have you had a chance to ride in the rain yet? We're getting a bunch over here, you should be too.

Working today and it has only been light rain so far but it is looking like it will be heavier tomorrow and I will be off work at 0800. I will post how they are in the rain soon.

Mike

Ok, I went for a 35 mile ride in the rain today. The tires worked fine and held good with no problems. Anyone thinking about buying these tires, I would not be any more concerned riding with these tires over any other brand of tires in the rain. :D

Heres a pic just before I left

Super! Thanks for the rain report. Of course, it helps that you ride a Silver ST, they handle the best. :rain1::slv13::rain1: Take care!

Yes I am still happy with these tires. I just took a 844 mile trip on them yesterday in weather from 30 to 54 and had no problems so far. They are still looking good as far as miles left on them also. So far they seem like a good buy for the price. I have 3600 miles on them now.

I put Shinkos on my CX 500 a few years ago and was impressed with the over all ride quality, rain traction, wear, etc. Interesting to see how they work on the ST.

Mike ,looks like we may have a new tire in the lineup , with the good feedback you have given ! Also like your bike ,the seat and rear cover setup , what are they ?

Mike the seat is a Russell day long and the trunk on the rear seat area is a Corbin Smuggler. The smuggler is great as you can store items like water, gloves, snacks, baseball cap and more. It comes off just like the rear seat and if you need to have a passenger just install the rear seat and leave the smuggler at home. If you have a chance to ride a Russell seat do it as you will love the fit. I can do a ton of miles on the ST with no pain in the butt. I just did 844 miles on New years eve.

I am glad to test the tires as I have been through a few tires this last year. Like I say so far so good on handling and wear. I think if they last anywhere near 9000 miles they will be worth installing again.

The best miles on any tire for me so far is the PR2 rear tire 14,000 miles, worst miles on a rear PR2 8000 miles. Front PR2 16,000 miles. Bridgestone 023 rear tire only went 5000 miles but I liked the way it handled. Front 023 was still over 50% left when I removed it to install the Shinko's.

I hope this helps!

Mike

Update on tires as I now have 5000 miles on them!

Front 4\32 tread depth

Rear 4\32 tread depth

You can see the flat spot in the rear tire now as the last 2000 miles have been 80% freeway miles. I am not sure how long they will last but this is an improvement over the Bridgestone 023 rear that only lasted 5000 miles.

Please let us know how the tire feels the next time you're on a foggy-wet twisty Lompoc road now that you have 5k on them!

Thanks for the updates! I've got an 009 Raven on the rear of mine, no complaints except I'm not riding, WINTER SUCKS! Will be getting a verge for the front this spring. 020 about shot.
