Re: What scares you most when riding?

Honestly what scares me the most is a car that is going to pull out into my lane or turn across my lane in the following circumstance:

I am approaching and watching the stopped car for movement and the driver is so impatient he/she cannot wait for me to pass by but instead starts inching out or slowly rolling out into my lane as I approach. For that split second I can't be sure that they aren't going to bolt into my path and I am too close/too fast to avoid the impact if they bolt. So far, it hasn't happened.

Re: What scares you most when riding?

A pack of 20 sports bike riders coming in the opposite direction on a twisting 40 mph road. A few in the group are usually riding over their heads, out of control, and coming over the yellow line. With a pack you just don't know who's gonna be in your lane.

I typically slow down, move the the right hand shoulder and let them all pass.

Re: What scares you most when riding?

All of the above, and here's one more. Coming around a 2 lane country sweeper and discovering that a farmer has mowed the ditch and blown the clippings onto the road. My wife actually went into the ditch once rather than endure the inevitable wipeout. The farmer saw it happen. I just gave him a "look" and he understood.

This is also one of the 2 times my ST has fallen off the sidestand. I parked hastily on the shoulder to help my wife and the stand sunk in about a minute.

She wasn't physically hurt, but we both developed a bit of a phobia. Her phobia was country curves in the summertime. My phobia was riding behind her .

Deer. Michigan has many, plus I've collided with them twice, once on a Goldwing, the other on a BMW.

Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost. And meteores.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Re: What scares you most when riding?

For me, its drivers talking or texting on cell phones that set me off more often than anything else I see on the road.

Anyone see the Mythbusters episode a couple of years back when they compared results of legally intoxicated drivers on a technical course versus drivers engaged in a cell phone conversation? The legally intoxicated drivers scored significantly better on the course than the cell phone conversationalists.

I'm not minimizing drunk drivers, but at least they don't make up seemingly half of the rush hour drivers.

My biggest fear is a perfectly shaped female derriere sitting on top of two beautiful 7' long legs, in shorts, walking anywhere near the roadway causing me to break concentration while riding.
