Re: VFR 1200?

The spy shot on cycle world's web site is the same one that's been all over the web. Does the latest print edition have a different pic than this one?

http://www.cycleworld.com/article.as...rticle_id=1381

The "picture" of the supposed ST1200 that's been posted is nothing more than an artists rendering based on supposed Honda patent drawings that very clearly are NOT patent drawings.

Not every country requires that the drawings in patents look as if they were done in 1924.

. . . . . . its NOT the replacement for mine either.

Can't help but wonder if Yamaha might be the brand "whenever" I might be ready for a change?

Do you feel Honda has had the design blahs for a while?

No, but the patent drawings I'm familiar with are generally annotated. And the fact that the mirrors on these drawings seem straight off a 'wing, and the windscreen straight off the current ST, makes me suspicious, too. The fact that MCN published them makes me even more suspicious.

Time will tell.

Re: VFR 1200?

Production costs on the VFR 1200 can't be much less (if any) than the ST 1300. New performance pressure from BMW and Kawasaki. VFR 800 sales not on fire. I would not be surprised if they move the ST 1300 closer to Goldwing markets and create a new high performance ST market. We know they own the touring space with the Goldwing. Maybe succession planning expanding the ST space.

Re: VFR 1200?

I can see a VFR/ST hybrid, it would make sense, whether or not gonna happen who knows?

I'll make a judgement on it, when I see it and ride it, but if it slants to the VFR side, my next bike prolly be the BMW K 1300. But my ST 13 is NOT going anywhere, even if I choose to go that route, I'll just at to the stable.

Re: VFR 1200?

I concur. I think Honda will subdivide the ST market. I think the VFR 1200 will be on sale with hard bags optional. The ST 1300 will continue with added factory farkles.

Re: VFR 1200?

Production costs on the VFR/ST1200 could actually be quite a bit lower if the same components are shared across multiple bikes. The ST is unique, with no significant parts shared with any other model. If Honda can double production volumes by sharing the same major components between an ST and a VFR, then the design and tooling costs, per bike, are approximately half.

And I doubt seriously the ST1300 will move closer to the Goldwing. Honda doesn't want the ST to eat into 'wing sales. I think that's the main reason you can't get the top box, radio, and other accessories in the U.S. They want to steer riders who want thoe things to the 'wing. And I think the sport-touring market in the U.S. is far to small for Honda to market two bikes into that class.

I pretty much expect the next "ST" to be aimed at the sportier side of the Sport - Touring continuum. That seems to be where the market is headed. The FJR, the Conniei 14, the BMW 1300. All are lighter, faster, more nimble than the ST.

Re: VFR 1200?

Great points BlueStreak. I can't wait to see what Honda does. I owned a 96 VFR 750 and loved it. I just saw a new 2007 VFR advertized for $6,900!!
One thing is for sure, the US does not really drive any motorcycle segment....Europe does!

I've checked with local Honda dealers and each has confirmed production of the ST1300 is slated to terminate. Couldn't get them to be date specific - but sure seems like Honda's decision to terminate production of the ST1300 may have already been decided.

Does anyone have contact with the higher food chain at Honda willing to confirm or deny this?

Thank you,
