37 or 38 is probably about right on a DL1000 with a big guy, a big load, and big Givis and a big windscreen running at higher speeds (over 70).

Mostly, backfiring on decel is caused by too rich a mixture. What happens is too much air is introduced into the TB's and the ECU pushes a lot of gas to compensate. If you haven't already done so, when you get a chance take off the tank and check that the air filter is clean and the seals around the air cleaner are functioning correctly. It's easy to get the seals rolled and cause an air leak around the filter that'll let in too much air. Also check all vacuum lines for leaks and the air cleaner for clean when you're in there. Make sure the TB's are seated correctly with clamps tight and the air cleaner and boots are also.

Like Chuck said, it could also be a TB synch problem but this is less common. Go for the simple things first.

Oh ya, and tell him to check his chain. If it gets too loose it can bang against stuff on decel and sound like a backfire. :D

Well done George, welcome to Placencia. Take a nice dip in those warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Yee Haw!
Uno mas cerveza, por favor. :)
I quit drinking alcohol 3 months ago.

We left Gulf of Mexico behind long ago, it's the Caribbean here, but yes, warm waters.

Just a reminder, there's three guys on this trip, Danny and Steve are integral to the process, I sure wouldn't be here without them. Following Danny's lead as we wander the wilds of south North America. Great companions, lots of laughter.

The riding is not what I'm used to fur sure. (On a side note, this was the longest trip I've ever taken without taking a day off, 9 days of serious riding (shortest day was only 124 miles but also involved some bike maintenance.)

Weather was/is hot 'n humid as you would suspect.

Just added a bunch more pics, some with captioned text. Feel free to peruse them.

Hope youse guys are having fun in the land of the free.

Ya! and thanks to you, George, Bill Rankin, Kris and about a dozen other people, we solved that "Houston, we have a proplem"

Thanks everyone for all the help on getting my burned valve issue sorted in record time.

We are "GO" for re-entry....but not just yet.:)

You little guys make me ill. I have 30mm ammo cans for panniers and am way happy with 40 MPG. Often less, and I haven't loaded it yet!!

The back firing could be TB synch, or, my guess, bad gas. Man up and have some fun:) I missed this thread when I was gone....

Just in case my other link don't work.

There are currently 6 Mexico/Belize albums by number, if ya don't see all six, click my name in the upper-right to refresh the list.

Y'all have fun, we're on our way to b'kfast then the Monkey River tour by boat and aped.
Nope, not showing up.. just the Mexico beyond Moonshine album and 14 others. Your previous direct links worked. I'm not sure how picasa works but do you have to publish to public or something?

Same here....I only see your first Mexico and beyond gallery. Must be some setting inside the workings of Picasa.....maybe the new galleries have been set to private instead of public???

same here, 100 photos in Mexico and beyond last one vid of turtle, don't see any of the numbered Mexico/Belize, the previous links showed an auth key in the footer so am guessing they aren't published as public

You've probably got it, Joe. You have to PICK the public button, and default is private. Like maybe I haven't done that 41 times or so.....

Oh. And Picasa has a "shoebox" where everything goes unless you specify exactly where it belongs. I have done that about 27 times, too.
