I have an opportunity to replace my glove boxes, but the ones for sale are 91 and I have a 93 ST1100. The parts girl at the dealer said they were different part numbers and not compatible. Does anyone know if these are interchangeable, or should I say, has anyone ever switched parts from these years?
Thanks!

Hello "Bud"

Should be interchangeable if your 93 is a standard, non-abs model. The abs/tcs model has buttons in its left pocket fairing piece. There was not an abs model offered in the USA for 1991.

Even if you had an ABS bike and got a non-ABS fairing pocket, it's just a case of cutting a hole to take the bezel for the ABS/TCS buttons. As John says, if you have a non-ABS bike, tupperware from all years is compatible/interchangeable and the parts girl is talking through her you-know-what!

Thank you - I should have guessed you'd like the yellow bits! :p:

By the way, regarding a previous enquiry of yours... later ST1100s have extended "kick panel" trims on the side covers, instead of the smaller rubber trim on the 90-94 models. The later trims can be fitted but you'd have to drill at least four small holes in the side panel - the originals fit with barbed rubber stalks but I think the newer types might use locating pins and star washers...

Part numbers are 83610-MAJ-G00ZA and 83710-MAJ-G00ZA - but at $36+ each, you're better looking for some from a crashed machine, maybe on eBay - probably you'd buy the side covers complete and transfer the trim.

That's terrific! Thanks!
And I am a big fan of yellow! Is it all reflective tape - beautifully applied?
You're in Wales? We had friends there in Clwyd. Once had the Rhos Male CHoir come to the states and give a concert at UW-Stout.
Cheers!

Hey Hound,
What I was looking for are little pads that go on the flat side towards your knees, just below the curve of the glove box panels. Like little rubber bumpers to prevent wear on the glove box panel bottoms. I have seen them mounted on at least 2 ST1100s, one guy said he bought them from Honda after he bought his 2003(yr?), and the other on a 1997.

Hi Kent,

Here's the official Honda Accessory ST1100 part:
08P59-MT3-A00 / KNEE PAD SET
Came with a template to cut the holes in the pocket fairings for their bolts.

Got mine from the dealer a looooong time ago. Sport Touring Accessories used to sell an aftermarket version... basically neoprene sheet cut into pads with glue slapped on one side.

You know what's odd... On the side panels of the '95+, right in front of the kickplate is a large headed philips screw.

When I checked a couple online vendors for the part number, in the schematic you posted, the part is denoted as 'rubber'. :^\

John beat me to it by a mile with the knee pad numbers. Thanks Mr O!

As for the panel screw... that's odd. I can only get it as "BOLT, COWL SETTING 83641-KY6-000". I checked the fiches on Bournemouth Honda, Bike Bandit, Cycle Parts Nation, Hollister Honda and Ron Ayers. Could you have misread the part index number "6" (screw) as "8" (rubber cushion pad for the centre stand handle)?

When I rode 1100s I'd always replace those screws with some from a Blackbird, which had an Allen key head rather than a Philips. Better-looking and harder-wearing. I'll try and look up the number.

Ok, the Blackbird screw part number is 90112-MAT-000, if you're interested. $1.95 each at Ron Ayers.

As for my bike... some yellow is just fluorescent, some is fluorescent/retroreflective/holographic, depending on its placement on the bike!

The county where I live used to be Clwyd and is now Sir y Fflint (Flintshire). The Rhos Male Choir are from Rhosllanerchrugog near Wrecsam, which is a little under 18 miles from me!

Thanks Hound! I'll make note of that. Hell... I should just go order a couple. They're both buggered up a bit, and one of them is close to being stripped anyway. I know I'm gonna have the side covers off more in the future anyway!

Ordered.

Oh, and your last line there, after 'county'... I simply cannot understand what you're saying :p

They strip because we use phillips screw drivers on them and they a japanese sized unit.
I replaced mine with the blackbird ones and like them a lot more than the 'phillips' heads.

I thought they stripped because they were made of cheese! :D

I didn't know about the specific Japanese-sized screwdriver head.

The OEM Side Cover screws are the larger size #3 phillips, instead of the common #2 phillips used everywhere else on the ST. There's also a small size #1 phillips but I don't recall any (OEM) place on the ST that uses that.

I got tired of carrying the special sized tip for my screwdriver and went to the 5mm hex socket screws a long time ago. A plus is that the dimples give you another 4 mph to the top end: linky

The Hound is from Wales - where trying to speak Welsh and reading it are an adventure! (at least for the non-Welsh).

I love the Blackbird bits! My 93 ST1100 has allen wrench screws on the side covers. I may still switch, though.

Thanks!

Kent, I don't know which site you mean... but unless they found my pic elsewhere, probably not.

Strathclyde Police supplied the "yellow bits" and they are very expensive - will PM you the details.
