A simple job, but one I have been meaning to do for a while. For some reason I always thought there was more to it, but done in under 5 minutes. Can see why people just do it more frequently than the service manual says.
Hi Guys,
I replaced the brake fluid on my ST1300 this weekend, and thought others might find it useful. In full disclosure, I don't purge the entire system, prior to refilling it, as I do mine the manual method.
Again this is just the way I do it, hopefully someone finds it a useful start...
Afternoon Guy's
As mentioned in the replacing Clutch Slave Cylinder seals post, I tend to video everything I do on my bike, hoping the video helps someone in the same way I have been helped historically on this and many other sites.
Here is the video on how to remove the mid cowling from the...
As I didn't already see a how-to post for changing the air filter on ST1300s, I thought I'd post some pics. It's a pretty straightforward process that should take ~60 minutes, start to finish–especially if you've never done it before. Note: Perform these steps on a near-empty tank.
Step 1)...
This is not a how to article.
It is a listing of current (2014) part numbers for a genuine Honda oil & filter change on the ST 1300.
Oil weight is 10W-40. WITHOUT MOLY!! API SG or higher. (API= American Petroleum Institute) API ratings alone are not the best choice these days for...
I made a short video that may help anyone out trying to bleed the brake system.
Hope this is helpful. search youtube "st1300a brake bleeding". I made a short one.. about 50 seconds and a long one... about 9 minutes (sorry).
I was putting a tire on the bike and decided to do an article on how I clean the rear brake
whenever I do a tire change.
If anyone has more info to add, please post and I'll adjust this article.
Okay, let's get to it.
This article assumes you've already removed the rear wheel
Remove the...
This is my first attempt at a How to article so bear with me.
Starter Valve synch for ST1300. Special thanks to Blrfl for letting me borrow his Carbtune manometer.
Remove seat. Move seat bracket to maintenance position. Loosen 10mm bolt holding rear of tank down.
Remove two 8mm bolts...
Changing the Air Filter on my ST1300
I noticed a thread about changing the air filter on a ST1300 and mine needed changing, so I documented what I did. Hope it helps.
Note: Bolt sizes mentioned refer to the NEEDED WRENCH- not the shaft size of the bolt.
Step 1: Get Ready
The filter is not...
This is pretty easy stuff, but I figured what the heck.
Step 1: (Get some Final Drive Gear Oil - I just use the Honda brand)
Step 2: (You need a 17mm wrench or sockets)
Step 3: (Put your bike on the centerstand and your oil drain pan under the Final Drive)
Step 4: (Very Important: Loosen...

What do you do with all the fasteners when you take off your Tupperware?
Well I made these worksheets to keep track of mine.
The idea is as you remove the fasteners, you place them on the correct spot on the worksheet. It helps me keep track of all the parts and it reminds me of all the...
I completed some needed maintenance on the '04 ST this weekend, after 11.3k miles. This was my first time with all the fairing removed and tank+airbox removed, and getting it disassembled & reassembled properly seemed as significant as the actual maintenance! I found lots of good information...
Here are some pics:
If you have the Fairing Deflectors it looks like this, left arrow to the access panel and right arrow to the Maintenance Lid:
Take a small object like a screwdriver and push the center of the push-pin in and you'll feel it 'pop'.
Then, pull the push-pin out
If you...
