I have a 1991 ST1100 with 59K miles with a broken timing belt. Have a low mileage spare motor. Cee Bailey wind screen, MCL peg lowerers, GIVI top case, Headlight modulator, Rostra Cruise Control. Includes Factory Service Manual.
Located in Moon, VA. Asking $400. Email me at drsethsr@gmail.com, text at 804-239-4681
drseth: Hello and GLWS. I am curious about the root cause of your premature timing belt failure. Did a visual inspection identify cracks due to aging of the 33 year old belt? Many of us with older ST1100's may consider preventative maintenance to replace timing belts on our ST1100's, even ST1100's with low mileage. When I replaced the belt on my '93 with 100,000 miles it still looked new. It was probably ten years old at the time. Others have reported the same experience. Thanks in advance.
Same here (replaced early due to age)- in some cases (quite rare, actually) the water pump pulley froze and dragged the belt over the pulley, destroying it (I think this happened to Uncle Phil’s bike but I’m not sure). I guess every part in a vehicle has some degree of variability in the parts that could fail.
