2000 ST1100 ABS 2 - Anti Dive

I'd like to inspect the AD unit /valve , can it be done with out taking the forks apart ? The ST has 80 000 km (50 000) miles). Thanks !

Yes.

Edit: the manual sez drain the oil first. I suppose you could lay the ST on its side and skip that step.

The anti-dive valve looks fairly simple. If the stem on the valve moves easily I would think that's ok . The caliper bracket has to pivot easily. From what I understand it doesn't stop front brake dive completely. What are you trying to solve? Once it comes off all the seals should be replaced.

Well , either a fork oil change , or new fork seals and bushings + what ever i find . She (might be) is a little mushy (dive) - low speed -moderate braking , . Nothing leaks , , no bottoming out or any thing like that , but I suspect the forks haven't ever been serviced -or at least it's a long time ago. I found out my parts dealer dosen't have the main piston in the AD , but other places do. Just doing a research , because I'll have a 320 kg lump on the garage floor when I start.

some have put heavier weight oil in to solve mushy suspension.

My post you quoted specifally said 12yo girl or skinny woman trying to right an 1100 or 1300. Maybe I assumed to much but this being a predominantly Honda ST site I was referring to a Honda ST1100 and Honda ST1300.

I'm not going to sort through the errant link you provided looking for an ST1100 or ST1300. Righting leaning heavy bikes with the bulk of their weight lower than the Honda STs or sportbikes which weigh less than the STs is apples and oranges.

I posit an ST1300 (I've never owned an 1100) tipped over with a full tank is a bigger challenge than many of those videos you linked to.

OK getting ready to pull the forks. I did a static sag test (push/ - /pull ,me on the bike) . I have about 2" (50mm) sag . Any comments og spring condition ?

never measured mine. It only bottoms out on large bumps and thats pretty rare .. I'm 230 and over pack on trips. stock suspension.

Should mention I am about 220 lbs (100 kg) . Clymer specify a service limit 473,4 - 483,1 mm free spring length , for a 2000 abs 2 ST. They also specify 3 types of springs (and lenght) depending on year and model. I can't see that they say anything about the total fork travel . Sag is supposed to be about 1/3 of total travel - I read somewhere
