2004 ST1300A Rostra pulse divider

I'm getting really confused! Is a pulse divider positively needed for a universal Rostra electronic cruise control (250-1223)?
Seems there are differing results.

Yes, it is needed. The speed unit pulse is too fast for the controller to pick. I used a /4, but a /3 would work too.

Don;t use the Rostra branded divider. it causes issues if you hold 5200 rpm for more then 10 seconds (does not matter if cruise control is engaged at the time or not). You'll trip something on the internal system and the FI light will come on and engine runs in default mode instead of full closed engine feedback loop mode (ie lose some power/fuel mileage).
