The 28a unit looks like a deep, steel bowl, while the 40a unit looks like a car alternator with a slotted, cast housing.

Thanks for the visuals guys. In case I don't have the upgrade is there a "better" brand to purchase?

If you look in the for sale section, member TheCheese is (or was) selling all the parts you need for the upgrade. The trick is that the adapter plate you need is no longer offered by Honda, so you'll need to source one from the salvage guys.
Or machine your own if you've got the skills.

The kit I have is still available. It is also complete! As in plate included. Should be everything you need. Electrical tape and zip ties thrown in!

There really is only one brand. OEM. Honda. There is a Chinese knock off, but it hasn't been used by enough people, or for long enough time to be recommended.

How much are you asking again?
$425 with fees and shipping included. Even comes with the ABS2 fuse panel. Something I am very close to hoarding for myself.
