Andrew, I did a trip from Kingman, to North Carolina a couple summers ago to help with an alt. upgrade, then to New Jersey to help with an engine swap. Can't be there to help you in two weeks, tho. Gotta save my vacation time to coincide with a few STOC events.

Join us at CampSTOC in April after ya get it all done.

The 1300 already has something like a 60A alternator. Fitting a 40A from an ST1100 (even if it's possible) would be going backwards. CAn't imagine why you need more than 60A! A small car like my daughter's Tercel only puts out 75A.

The watt output on the ST1300 isn't as good as the Wing, or the K1200GT. When I was looking to buy a Sport Touring bike, the output was one of my concerns, and still is, I have to be careful with how many farkles I turn on at one time, especially when not at high RPM's.

I wonder if anyone has tried to fit the 1300 alt to the 1100? ^0 amps would be awesome. Also, for the 40 amp, is there any place that sells an aftermarket alt other then the OEM one from Honda.

Some people are alrday thinking about this. Someone also mentioned there may be a 60amp version of the ST11 alternator used in a fork lift. When details come to hand I am sure someone will report in.

I would keep my ST11 forever if I did that. I was looking at the two alternators (11 &13) and they do not look too different. I'm not a mechanic but if someone has the mechanical knoledge, please look at it.

Some folks looked into this over on the ST mailing liST but the mounting and drive engagement were different. Regarding the increased amperage for the ST1100 OEM 40A style alternator. There was some work done my Tony Pepenella over on the ST mailing list as well. I believe this was the fork lift sourced one. I can't recall exactly how it went but there was some critical component that couldn't be sourced and the project stopped. I think a couple of 60-65A units were actually built as a part of the development effort though.

I could be mistaken. I was once before.

I think the V-4 alternator (read ST's) counter rotates. To balance out the shaft rotation. I think that is the problem with sourcing other alternators.

I would be interested in a group buy. Even though I have a 3 year old 28 amp system, I want to upgrade.
What about aftermarket 40 amp systems? Any out there?
