Last Friday I was riding out to the Oregon coast to meet up with my wife and kids as well as some family friends for a camping trip. I was able to ride two routes I'd been hoping to get on before summer ended. Hwy 34 from Philomath to Waldport is a hoot, by the way.
I was late getting to camp so I was riding faster than normal all along hwy 34. About 10 miles from the campground the fog rolled in and it got dark so I had to be on my best behavior. There was lots of traffic and anyone who has ridden in fog knows how it collects on the wind screen rendering it a hazard.
I finally made it to camp and as I pulled on to the gravel parking area my six year old daughter comes running in front of the bike yelling "Daddy!". I pulled the brake too hard and had the bars turned hard right. You know what happened next. The worst part was that it was in front of every one including my friend who I usually ride with. He came over and helped me get the bike back upright. Not a scratch on the bike. Phew!
There is one other part of the story. My friend had previously dropped his Yamaha FZ1 a while back so now we were tied. On the next day, Saturday, he dropped his bike again. So now he's back in the lead.
