I was wondering if anyone had any route tips or GPS files for the Waynesville, NC area? A few friends and I will be there in early May and I wanted to find some great lesser-known routes to ride. Thanks.

I've got a "few" I can send you. Let's PM.

Why don't you stay up at Moonshine Campground just west of Waynesville? We ST-O guys have a great rapport with the owners there who are constantly upgrading the facilities and are happy to see us. Some of us are still boycotting BRMC and are happy to remember how shabbily we were treated at the last Blue Ridge Gathering we had there.

Dave, I was unaware of anything in the past. I last stayed there in 2006 or 2007. I'll send you a PM.

I also have a 'few' routes from 17 years of hosting the BRG.. How many days, and how many miles a day?
UP,

We will be riding that area for two days. 300 mile days should be doable of mostly 2-lane. The third morning, we will get up and travel north via backroads towards Marion, VA or Tazwell, VA. I watched a video last night on YouTube of a ride you lead in that area. I wrote down as many of the roads as I could determine. Looked like some great roads! Thanks in advance for any insight!

That area, I can vouch for. I spent a 4-day weekend with the Nighthawk Forum guys, riding on and around the Back of the Dragon, which is the road connecting Marion and Tazewell. Zoom in and drag around this puppy:

Please keep me informed; I'm very tempted to join you.

I’ve a cache of about 150 GPS files I’ve saved since 2006, containing routes from less than 10 miles to 400+. Many are loops out of Moonshine, BRMC, or Ironhorse.

VA 42 is one of my favorite roads. When I go to/from VA or WV I run down from Marion VA on VA42 to near Abington, then through Shady Valley on 421, then thru Pisgah NF to 19E to the BRP near Asheville. That’s a travel day in paradise.

A gentlemen from another forum (Valkyrie) sent me some very interesting routes. I will be happy to send them to you if you send me a PM. Here is the route we took. The area with all the numbers is his suggested route. Its very rural, lots of streams by the road way. Good road surfaces.
