Those training wheels remind me of the riderless BMW that has dual side stands. They auto-deploy when it comes to a stop and retract... Well you get the idea.

I think the 3 year age limit is to avoid riders who aren't yet potty trained. That way when you take it back to the dealer and say "it crapped its rear-end" they know you're talking about the bike and not the rider.
