Carb float drop check, what methods do you use

Ive seen several methods on the web concerning how to check float height measurement.Some say put it on it's side,some say let it drop vertically.What do you say? 7MM drop correct?

OK I think I got It.Can someone confirm if I'm doing this correctly? Carbs on their sides,gently tilt them till they hit the stop and measure from the outer part of the bowl to the carb body.
