Confused about tire sizes for Avon Storms

Looks like I'll need to replace my tires soon. From what I've read, most people really like the Avon Storm tires, but I'm a little confused about what model bike they fit. Is it just the ST1100, or are they used on the ST1300 as well?

I'm also unsure of what size I need. The owners manual says:

Front: 120/70ZR18M/C (59W)
Rear: 170/60ZR17M/C (72W)

But I don't see an exact number match on the swmoto website. Is the 'Z' important? What is the M/C and the number in the brackets (59W) or (72W)?

Thanks,

Alan

Alan, the www.avontyres.com website listed the Storms as fitting the ST13, and has the explanations of the information under the technical tab. The Z refers to speed rating (Z is plenty!), the M/c to motorcycle use, the 59W and 72W are load ratings (how much weight the tyres are rated for). From what I can see the Storms are listed to meet the original specs.

Avon Storms are available in the size to fit the ST1300 and meet Honda's requirements as stated in the owner's manual, the service manual, and on the DOT plate attached to the bike itself. The Z means the tire meets US and international standards to 149 mph and the W numbers are load ratings coded to a specific weight. 59 is 536 lbs and 72 is 783 lbs. Load ratings are also US and international standards.

The R1x is rim size
The V or Z is the speed rating (get either 'cuz both work for the ST's speeds).
The important numbers for 1100 and 1300 are the xxx/xx and R1x

ST1300 ABS (don't know if non-abs takes the same size)
120/70-ZR18 Front
170/60-VR17 Rear

ST1100 Standard (know that the ABS takes different size)
110/80-ZR18 Front
160/70-VR17 Rear

The ABS 1300 takes the same size as the non-abs and I still really like mine!
(8K miles and wearing much more evenly than the OEM's that were replaced at 7K!)

Thanks everyone for the responses. I visited the UK Avon tire site, and I couldn't see a tire recommended for the ST1300. I also saw some older posts that seemed to indicate that the Avon tire wasn't certified for the ST1300, so I wasn't sure if it was an acceptable replacement.

"Acceptable" in the U.K. means something else... legal mumbo jumbo

Avons do fit and work well on both STs.

The V or Z is the speed rating (get either 'cuz both work for the ST's speeds).
Ok, looking at the www.avontyres.com site again, the numbers they recommend are:

Front: 120/70ZR18
Rear: 170/60ZR17

When I look for these on the the swmoto site, then don't have the 'Z' in the number. They don't have a 'V' either. I don't want my tires to explode when I go through the Wendy's drive thru at 140 MPH. Are they just skipping the number in their listing, or are these tires not rated for sport touring bikes?

I got my STorms from SWMOTOTIRES and they ARE the Z rated tire. You'll do fine if you order from them.

Don't stress it, order the STorms and go ride!

Ok! OK! I'll back off now! I'm sorry Mark! I really will stop now. It must be the late night last night and being giddy that my RTE actually happened! I'm just glad you have a great sense of humor.
