Escort 9500ix Where To Mount On ST1100

Just picked up an Escort 9500ix and wondering if anyone's tried to hide it under the headlight in a Pelican 1020 Waterproof box. I have an amplirider to hear alerts so no need to see the RD display but not sure the GPS function will work well without a clear view of the sky. Am leaving in less than two weeks for Nova Scotia via Maine so no time to experiment. I do have a plan to mount it on the deck with an angle bracket and velcro to keep it level and secured to STooge but would really like to keep it out of view.

Uncle Phil is the expert on the 1100. He has a plan on how to mount this that won't work on the 1300.

This is a timely thread for me. If it ever gets here, back ordered through 'stich, I will have a Redline to mount.

Thanks treemuncher, I was going to check with Uncle Phil to see what he had up his sleeve but from the other posts (from "09") I read I don't think he has one with the GPS function. He may have installed something newer since then however.

I haven't really used a RD for the past 15 years or so but got a ticket last week and I don't need anymore.

Those are a popular choice. I just need to wait till I have the unit in hand before I get one to be sure It fits. It will be a few $ more but I will just go to REI and get one off the rack. They sell many different sizes.

Mark, Uncle Phil doesn't have any experience with the GPS option so I'll probably mount it on top of the dash for now and play with the stealth mode later. I'll just need to be vigilant until then. I did see a post where someone covered it with cloth up there and when he rode, the flow of air would lift it enough to see the display and not block the antenna but kept it out of the elements and curious eyes otherwise. Photos showed it looked kinda funky though.
