What do you good folks use to clean the old moly paste off of the final drive spider/splines during removal and reinstallation?

I am replacing all three o-rings as well, so I want to get it nice and clean to inspect it before putting it all back together.

Thanks!

Depends what you're up to...

Checking for signs of (any) wear might require a full cleansing...
Brake cleaner, lots of rags/workshop grade paper towels...
A parts cleaner is a nice addition...

And prior assembly you "dirty" everything up again ;)

A stiff brush repeatedly dabbed in some alcohol washes the old moly paste away quite nicely. Using isopropyl alcohol works much better than using Scotch or Bourbon. It won't damage any rubber seals you might get it on and it evaporates quickly making drying the parts an easy job. I use a solder brush. They are plenty stiff and the bristles are inline with the handle making them much easier to use for this task than a tooth brush.

An old toothbrush, rag and ear buds. Buy a new toothbrush for cleaning your teeth...!:)
Bit extravagant with your money, aren't you?

I used to use a rag dampened w/ solvent and q-tips - lots of them. I don't like spraying solvent around if it can hit a seal - hence the rag.

I used Kerosene (Paraffin) which isn't aggressive on the the seals - which I think are Nitrile...

Remember you only need to re-apply 3g of molly paste, equal to a light covering!
