I've been using eye drops for Glaucoma for a number of years now.

Today my Dr said my pressure is climbing despite drops. I have now tried several kinds of drops.

He is suggesting SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty).

I'm wondering if anyone here has had this done and if it affected their riding?

SLT should not affect your riding in any way. If I hear anything to the contrary I'll let you know.

From everything I have read it all looks positive and relatively non invasive.

My wife had the same deal going for several years with all of the drops. She finally had surgery done to both eyes.

I'll ask her to post for you tomorrow if she has time. I'm her eyes when we ride. The intercom is great because it helps us share the sights.

I am at risk for Glaucoma

my parents developed it late in their lives, after 60

my optometrist has been monitoring me for the past many years, gives me what he calls a Field Test, every year or so..... no glaucoma so far.....

thanks for sharing this info I was unaware of any type of laser surgery for glaucoma

Sorry for the delay in getting back on this. My wife's surgery was the non-laser type. She was not a good candidate for the laser technique.

Her best suggestion is to find a very good opthamalogist, preferably at a teaching hospital. She has had good luck with UT in Memphis and follow up care in Milwaukee. Do your research and find an over-qualified physician for the best results.

She still has issues and regular office visits. The surgery helped but it is still a major concern.

Best of luck to you. Keep on top of that eye pressure. :07biker:

Isn't there something you're suppose to smoke to help with glaucoma?

But as with all medication you probably shouldn't operate heavy equipment until you know how it affects you.

Update:

Had the SLT several months ago and no vision related issues. In fact I am now down to one set of drops, once a day. My wife says I have other issues however............

:D, I think I have the other issues you speak of.

Glad it helps. I was trying to catch Glaucoma from a friend of mine (for the herbal prescriptions) until I learned more about it.

If you do get it, come on down to AZ! We just passed the law and you can ride all year round.

In all seriousness, I would not have known I had except that it runs in the family and I was on the lookout for it. All 4 of my Grand Parents died legally blind.
