GPS mounting
Does anyone know of a ram mount I can use to mount a garmin 5.5” XT GPS on my ST1300? (and thoughts on the best place to mount it)

Bolts to either reservoir on the handlebar Easy on or off. I've done this to all of my bikes and they hold perfectly. But I'm bias since the first bike I did this on, my YZF600R, didn't have another option. I followed suit on my ST1100 and Ninja 250. I think I prefer to have the display a bit off to the side as opposed to directly in front of me. Less distracting.

I really like my mount for my Garmin zumo XT using its RAM-style mount to the middle of my dash.

I have a RBIS, commercially made version of what @TXRoadRash wrote about in this article. If you're mechanically inclined and have access to simple tools it's a pretty easy and not very expensive route - the hardest part is shaping the aluminum bar stock to match the shape of the ST1300 dash.

Now he went with SAE fasteners. I'm a metric bigot and would go metric all the way instead. I provide links to McMaster-Carr's website because they're good for illustrating the parts, but I'm certain I've seen the screws at my local Ace Hardware. Not so sure about the metric barrel nuts.

Substitute for the 1/4" x 20 hardware,

2 - M6 clip on barrel nuts for the "1/4" x 20 extruded u-nuts (also called speed nuts -- to reinforce the mount holes that Honda made for the push pins) "
2 - M6 x 25mm SS round button head hex screws

Get the RAM® Ball Adapter with M6 x 1 Threaded Female Hole, Part#: RAM-B-273-M6U

Then to mount to the bar of aluminum, I would countersink from the underside and use this:

M6 x 10 mm SS Hex Drive Flat Head Screw

You can go crazy and instead of using short screws out at the mounting points, add one or more RAM balls by using the part below and longer screws to pass through it and into the barrel nuts. Just like my RBIS.

RAM® Ball Adapter Base for Grab Handles & Handlebar Clamps

I've used the outer ones to attach a GoPro for a dash view of me in the saddle. :)

I prefer a GPS in my line of sight but just below it. Centered is what I want, but until I lucked up on a Migsel dash mount in our For Sale section, I had it mounted on the clutch reservoir cover with the RAM mount mentioned above.
I like a nice, sano dash mount for a clean, finished look.
But I suck at fabrication. Several here have constructed some nice ones.

As it would happen, I am currently fabbing up a new mount(s). Last week while out riding I was noticing how looking up and down to the phone was annoying so dual mount is in order. @Sadlsor has the right idea. The migsel is a nice piece of kit, there are others similar. @STRider is my hero with this stuff always with a clean install.
One thing I have noticed is not to compress the rubber washers to much or you get the vibration.

When I had my ST, I was not a fan of having things on top of the dash. I wanted to see the road and not have all kinds of stuff up there blocking my view. Not a fan of mounting things this heavy to the plastic dash. Also not a fan of the RAM mount on the clutch reservoir. That is a lot of weight held by two little screws. Others like it and have had good luck with it, but just not for me. I preferred the RAM ball that was attached to the clutch bar clamp.

I put my ZUMO between the handle bars where it was out of the way and still in view. It is mounted to a RAM ball that is attached to the aluminum bar cover. Here is a photo of the mount. In this photo, I had the street pilot on the bar just for fun. I removed it and put my XM radio in that spot. P1220057.JPG
