This is a hitch I made with 3/8 X 2" aluminum flat stock I shaped it had it welded them connected horizontally to frame . then I connected to tail frame under pillion seat for a rock solid fit

Looks like a nice job! Is your bike red? Just wondering why the hitch is red instead of the usual black?

I painted it red because I didn't want anybody walking into it. My bike is silver 2007
Also red paint is all I had on hand. The whole hitch is not painted just exposed parts
I will try to post pics this week

Looks good.

Thicker aluminium has to be heated to the correct temperature to prevent cracking. I read somewhere that the old-timers would deposit a layer of carbon on the metal with an oxy-acetylene torch. Turning off the oxygen for a smoky flame and then gently heating with the torch adjusted correctly, When the carbon disappears the temperature is just right for bending. Another way for smaller pieces is to use a candle to deposit the carbon and then use a propane torch for heating.

Yes aluminum can be a finicky metal the guy that welded it did an great job. I wouldn't even try welding aluminum.;)
