right now i have 5k on the rear and it looks fine. however, i plan on taking a trip to colorado in may so do I change now and keep the "old" tire around the shop, or do I just go with the old one. memorial day weekend is the trip (thurs-mon) and i am guessing it will be around 4k miles. i am kinda thinking of replacing it before the trip, but what's y'alls opinion? thanks johnny:biker:

I routinely get 9,000 or more on my BT020's. Tried one set of 021's and only got 7,000. FWIW I get around 9,000 on Continental Road Attacks too.

EDIT - my post pertains to the stock BT020...

I got 12,400 miles before reaching the wear bars. Some folks have reported getting more mileage than me. However, mileage varies depending on road conditions, riding style, dry or wet riding, etc.

You can estimate the remaining miles in the tire by gaging the tread depth, and project the amount of remaining miles.

I wouldn't take a trip to Colorado on the tail end of a tire's life but that's me. I tried one 021 and it was done in 7500 miles.

I would replace before the trip. Then put the half used tire back on when the new set was used up. Of course I change my own tires so that no big thing to me.

One of the real problems you may have is if you do need a tire along the way (if you wear out the other one) you may be stuck somewhere for a day or two...most dealers do not stock that size tire and its ordered from a supplier with overnight delivery which you will probably land up paying also. Change it and go with peace of mind.

If it were me, I'd replace the 021 before leaving on the trip with another model tire. It's pretty well established that 021's aren't able to deal with the ST's weight and wear more rapidly than OEM 020's, Pilot Road 2's, Avon Storms or just about any other ST fitment.

yeah this is my first run on the 020s and i am not real impressed. i guess it is just because i am a little anal, but i hate to have two different tire manufacturers on at once. anybody run metzler tires? i was very happy with them on my sportbike.
