There are small springs in the split gear drives that provide a zero lash engagement. As the springs weaken the lash may increase to something more than zero causing some gear noise. This is not indicative of a pending failure or anything. I think Honda just uses these kinds of drives to provide a more refined, quiet and sophisticated product.
