How to tell which alternator

Hi everyone,

After being without an ST for a few years I am looking at buying another. One of the bikes I am looking at is a 91 and the current owner has very little history one the bike. I seem to remember there was some way to tell if the alternator had been already upgraded or not, but can't remember what it was.

Thanks, he to be on an ST again soon, I miss my old one.

Have a look at it. The 40 amper is air cooled, so it has an "open" case, whereas the 28 amper is solid.

Also, there's no VRR when 40A installed because 40A has it's regulator build in.
