Went for a ride into the Commonwealth (aka Pennsyltucky) early this morning. There was a flea market of sorts (Ham radio "hamfest") about 45 minutes away and the weather was perfect so off I went.... The ride to the event was perfect.. I got to the fairgrounds and the gate peeps said I could park it close to them to keep it out of the grass field.... Yeah... well.... The center stand went down and it was upright, with a tiny lean..... Well soft ground and gravity took over. About an hour or so later there was a PA announcement... I went running to find the ST on its right side, the mirror popped and glass broken. The real bothersome thing is that the mirror scratched the fairing quite nicely.
So now I'm looking for a RIGHT side mirror and a way to unscratch my plastic..... grrrrrr

EDIT RIGHT... Duh

That's why I keep a couple of these with each of the three bikes. Use it with the side-stand --- I've never had a mishap. That string is long enough to reach the right throttle grip, so you're reminded it's in place.

As a testament to the ST1300, a local "metric" bike scrap company told me that they have NEVER had a ST1300 come in for scrap. They did have ONE ST1100 though!

Thanks for the info. I will save it for the next stooopid thing I do. The $100 replacement showed up two days ago. Now I find that the 30 mm long SS cap head screw that is used to hold my PSR light brackets is now stripped. I guess I was a little off plum when I tried putting it all back together. The SS must be really soft stuff cause the nut is still intact and I was able to clean it up with another 6x1 screw and cutting oil. This "sleep over" is just refusing to stop giving me a PITA.

I've carried one of those plastic side stand supports for the last 5 years and finally used it for the first time this week, worked well in gravel.
