I have a 1982 Rebel 250, starts up every time no matter how long it sat. I use it to teach. Good bike, I'm sure she will enjoy.
Indeed, the Rebel 250's are little gems.
I view them much like my first car - a Datsun 510 (sedan version of the more common 210) - Light, simple, basic. Starts every time. Engine runs like a watch. Not gonna light the world on fire on any performance basis. Sustained highway-speed driving gets a little buzzy, and "modern" (ahem) highway driving speed really isn't feasible. But they're fun to toss around, and not bad looking. Loads of fun just to zip around town.
I've had several of them through the shop, and one even hung around as an 'errand bike' for a while. One fringe benefit of dealing with older/vintage bikes is that we get to do 'extended test drive' on a LOT of bikes. Common stuff like Shadows, Magnas, Midsize sport-bikes, and/all Harleys just gets our standard 2-3 mile loop test ride to prove it runs and shifts. We typically only keep and 'extended test' stuff we haven't had a chance to try before. But in the end, I've ridden so many I've lost track, and now really only remember the really good and really bad ones.
FWIW, I own my ST1100 -precisely- because we got it in, I took it on the initial short test loop, came back, and said to my brother "I'm keeping this one, and by the way I'll be back at 5 to take you home." (we carpool, and that was at about 10am...)
