Turning the key to lock my top box and the key snapped in half. Got the broken key out of the lock - but haven't had success with getting a replacement key yet. I've contacted a few Locksmiths in the area and none have been able to assist. It's a Honda branded case - not a GIVI.

You guys have any ideas?

Thank you

Is it the same type of key as your ignition and side pannier keys? (sorry, but I don't have experience with the Honda top box). If so, I have a blank I can mail you.

The Honda topcase was made by GIVI if I remember correctly. Should be the same key.

I had a couple made at a local locksmith. Went in with the two halves, they found the blank without any problem and cut me two new ones - holding the two parts together in a vice.
It seems to be a pretty common barrel lock. I believe the Honda case is made by Givi.

I have found a number of locksmiths in my area have gone the way of the big box stores. They only want the straightforward, easy jobs that don't require 'locksmithing'. If you have both halves of the key, it should be a straightforward job to take measurements and cut a new key. Keep looking. There are still old time locksmiths around.

I have an excellent local full-service locksmith. We worked together to re-key the K&G Engineering luggage on my Nighthawk so one key fits all locks.

If it's a Givi key, an Ilco 1605 blank works. Tell the 'smith that the shoulder needs to be cut a bit longer up the shank.

If it's a GIVI lock in there (even though it's a Honda case) you can replace the lock (or the tumblers only) with any GIVI set.

Here's the GIVI lock and the "tumblers" are disks that you can swap on the top.
The circled part is where there is a clip that holds on the lock part that twists when you move the key.

I had a similar problem, but couldn't get the broken key out of the lock. You can press out the hinge pins on the front of the top box, and get enough space to wiggle an arm in with a tool to remove the latch mechanism from inside.

Thanks again to all for the responses.
Update: I spoke to Givi late this afternoon and looks like they will be able to assist. I will confirm when I get a new key in hand - regardless.
