This is a Givi trunk power connector I was thinking about making three of these for two panniers and top box. Does anyone have any experience in soldering and potting such parts?

Soldering, absolutely, since I was a kid. Potting I have done a few times, usually clear.

My top box only has the two-contact version. I haven't seen a three-contact one.

I envision internal lighting as well as replacing saddlebag reflectors with real lights.

Yes, I would love to work with you on this project.

Soldering is easy. Pick up a soldering iron for electrical/electronics and practice. The key is to apply the iron's tip to the copper wire and heat it so that the solder, when touched to the wire, melts. This will give you a 'hot' or shiny end result. Not enough heat will yield a crystalized appearance to the solder after it cools. If the insulation melts, you can apply the solder to the tip of the iron and press the liquid drop against the wire. Now you will have to hold it there to heat the wire sufficiently to give you the shiny result. It just takes a little practice. There must be hundreds of videos on youtube.

Oh yeah, you want rosin core (NOT acid core) solder for electrical stuff.

Took a bit to "get started", and this is just a dream in my head still, plan to follow. After identifying magnets, I will slice these two pieces to appropriate lengths.

3/4" electrical conduit.

Some commercially available options for ideas/inspiration:

Josh
Some very usable connectors there
I thought this was the easy way when I saw them. Almost all are rated at 2 amps, that maybe enough, I was thinking 5 amps.

Magnetic connection is fine sitting at a desk or chair but are they strong enough to hold under a bumpy road ??
