Very similar to pilot training, where you're instructed that if you're on a collision course with another aircraft, it will have no apparent motion (until it "looms" on you).

Thanks for a great read. Other useful articles in the Technique section of the website, too.

I've caught myself mesmerized by motion at times, but never really put my finger on it. All the sudden some is on top of me... Now that my daughter is learning to drive, I see her not registering some types of movement. I think this is pretty relevant stuff. I also think it comes with being tired and not paying attention.

If Einstein rode motorcycles, I think he'd be all over the concept of motion camouflage...all about relativity.

I was taught in the riding class a few years ago, that going through intersection move all the way to the left for visibility and awareness. I had a real nice ride today to a conference. I found myself on I-80 doing more weaving to UN-mezmorize drivers.

One reason I use my headlight modulator on high beam when I'm in daily traffic (non freeway -with the '04 having a Signal Dynamics, I can choose between high beam and low beam).

I have had so many cages stop dead in their tracks after they satrted out from their side street!

Have you really taken a good look at some of these headlights on motorcycles? You just don't see them! Add fork lights and a modulator. At least 95% of those cages out there looking will see you. The other 5% is on their cellphone and they won't see the tractor-trailer rig about to run them over! :eek:4:
