My stator gave out last month and I did not want to deal with it so my friend Dave who works on bikes as a side job said he would take on the challenge. I bought the 40A and parts from partzilla.com for roughly $450 and let him do it. I picked the bike up and it's back up to 14 volts plus it's nice and clean. He also fixed the oil leak caused by the gear shift seal. So if your stator gives out and you don't want to hassle with the hard job this is a good alternative and he can give you the price estimate.
Dave lives in Oxnard, Ca. and can be reached at
