Permanent Trickle Charger/Battery Hookup... How?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a trickle charger, in efforts to extend
battery life. It has several possible battery connection styles,
using connectors that are included, (ring, clamp, etc...).
Interchange between the styles is facilitated via an
inline connector coming from the charger.

I want to permanently mount the charger ring terminals
to the battery posts, on my ST1100, so I can charge
the battery, thru the inline connector, when the bikes
not in use for extended periods.

Question:
Do I have to be concerned with the charger current
flowing back into the bikes circuitry beyond the battery?
Can I just permanently add the ring terminals to the
battery posts, and trickle charge with the bikes ignition off?

Yes... pretty much how I do it... I have a powerlet attached so I can just plug/unplug to the tender. There is a fuse inline as well which is recommended for anything connected to the battery and staying ON the bike.

The connection to the bike is thru a fuse block I installed under the seat. On my ST1100, I had the connector attached to the front brake cable so that it was easily accessible. On my ST1300, I installed Powerlet outlets just below both glove boxes and made an adapter to plug my Battery Tender in. I have the charger mounted on the wall right next to where I park the ST, so it's easy to plug/unplug it as needed.

Don't have to worry about the bike. The charger won't produce any abnormal voltage that the always on parts of the bike will see.
Yes you can hang the ring terminal (fused on the hot side) directly off the battery.

Early on I installed a Marinco 12 volt accessory power point inlet in the right hand fairing pocket. It is fused at the battery and used to charge a cell phone. Later I modified the male plug for the power point to connect to the charger. When the male plug is connected from the charger the battery receives charge or float voltage, both of which are less than what the alternator puts out when the engine is running so no part of the electrical system is stressed.
