Anyone ever have this hose split? Goes from fuel cutoff valve to carbs. 16958-MT3-000

And can a generic piece of hose from the auto parts store be ok if the bend is not an issue ?

Has it hardened due heat?
Weird position for a crack like this, normally they start to fray at the ends...

does it have the correct fuel pump? Some after market replacement pumps have too much pressure and that could also cause that.

Had the carbs out a couple days ago, so my guess is a little too much "maneuvering" on my part. All is original.

Weird thing is it was fine yesterday doing a lot of running around. Starting up this morning it gradually tried to quit. No gas except on the driveway.

I'd go to Ace Hardware or an auto store and buy correctly sized fuel line. No need ordering the honda OEM part.

One of those two elbows was not available when I went through my '97 so I went to the local Honda dealer and got a foot of the correct diameter hose. No bend but it didn't seem to be an issue. They have all the weird sizes Honda uses and you aren't forced to buy the whole role that Honda sells. I don't recall the diameter, but be careful you get the right size for obvious reasons. I'd get the actual part if available, but that's just me.

Swapped it out for the one in my '91. I'll get some correctly sized hose for the 91, looks like the bend is a non issue. 15 bucks for that 5 inch part from Honda, although it IS still available.

Just curious as to how this happened.

Check out my summary of '1991 ST1100 Refurbishment' under the search function above.
I had the same issue with the same hose. All the hoses underneath the carbs rock hard and cracking. The last time anyone was under there was just before I bought it, some five years before the leak.
