Headed for a European Edelweiss tour in July and have reserved an R1200R.

Can anyone tell me if this has a metal tank or should I leave my magnetic tank bag at home?

It has a metal tank but it is shaped kind of weird for magnetic bags to stick to.

So a small one might work? Big enough to carry a camera? and maybe some sunglasses?

Got any BMW dealers in your area? You could take your bag to a dealer and test fit it. I would ask before slapping it on the tank but they will most likely let you test it out.

Nowhere to check one out, our Beemer dealer went out of business about 2-3 years ago.

No worries... yes it has a metal tank and yes, take your bag... it will be fine... riding buddy of mine had one and the tank is no different from any other naked bike out there. His Marsee bag fit just fine, no problems. Still, check with other owners here:
