Those of you who have put on some miles on your ST1300. When did you replace your OEM Shock and did it wear out, blow out, or did you just want something new/better.

I am looking at a long ride and have 32K on the odo. I am wondering if I am risking being in BFE when the shock blows and I'm riding on an old spring.

Thanks for the input.

I replaced my OEM shock at 63,000 miles. As far as I could tell the shock itself was still working fine but the preload adjuster was taking more clicks to give the proper sag. There were no oil leaks or seeps in the adjuster or shock body.

To clarify, the adjuster needed more clicks to begin moving the preload collar down to compress the spring. The spring itself was not tired.

Yep mine was replaced after 45k of heavy overloaded miles, the shock was ok it was the preloader that gave up . There have been a few preloaders that have went bad over the last few years.

Mine was replaced under warranty at 25k (the reload adjuster quit working). The new one has had a hyper pro spring on it its whole life and now has 173k on it & seem to be doing OK.

I put a new HyperPro shock and spring on at 70K the stock shock and spring couldn't handle the load 2 up.

I'm at 160k and still ticking. I'll know pretty soon if it still can handle a 2 up ride. But from what I am told the aftermarket shocks do ride better. I'd like a better better ride, but the wallet won't handle the shock (pun intended).

OEM is hanging in there at 70,700+ miles. I think the damping has softened a little but at least in the compression stoke that's an improvement. The 1300's shocks seem much more durable than those fitted to the ST1100. Most of them (1100 shocks) were toast within 30-40K, mine was a complete pogo stick at 35K.
