Both my ST's...1991 I bought nine years back and 2006 inherited five years ago, were allegedly dealer serviced before I picked them up. Filters on booth looked original....likely some of the bugs came over from Japan.

If the seal was still good, I'd say try washing it.

I used to wash the "cardboard" air filters. Soak them in some strong concentrated detergent and used a small stiff brush to loosen the gunk in the pleats. Believe it or not, they came out clean looking new. Just make sure you can set them aside to dry thoroughly before using next.

Was expecting to see the dirt on the inside of the filter - not the outer mesh!
Very strange...

What is the black debris on the clean side of the air filter, looks like blowby oil mist from the crankcase breathers.
Could be from an over filled crankcase that Honda always does when they do oil changes.
The 2nd ST1300 that I bought in May 22 came with a fresh oil change from Honda and yes, the oil sight glass was overfilled with no air bubble in the sight glass. After putting 6,000 Km's on it since May, I'm seeing a tiny air bubble at the top of the sight glass when I put it on the center stand.
When I put it on the side stand, there is no oil showing in the sight glass.
